../ marlevar
Acoustic sounds, Mediterranean sonorities, rhythmical dynamics, unpredictable vocals, the use of five Romance languages ( Provençal, Italian, French, Genovese, Spanish ), the sensitive cultural and social themes expressed with delicate poetic inspiration by the poet Sergio Arneodo: these are the strong features of Marlevar project.
The band come from Provençal Alps, a place between France and Italy. A land balanced between the continent and the Mediterranean Sea, passage for armies, pilgrims, merchants, smugglers, emigrants …
Marlevar is a rare composed world in Provençal, it means mother-yeast (Lievito-madre?, lievito naturale fatto con la pasta del pane), but its sound also reminds the sea and the alpine heights. “That really feats the band-say musicians- because from the tops of our mountains touching the sea, the sight spreads on South-Europe, natural place of cultural and artistic meeting and crossing”.
A landscape of huge spaces, recorded by Marlevar in their homonymous album: eight original songs and a tribute to Fabrizio De Andrè.
Creativity has been sustained by a “special” place, a hidden valley that has always had the role of doorway between France and Italy; the mountains and the sea: Coumboscuro.
All the evocative powers and legends from this place have inspired the important lyrics, the atmospheres, the spirituality and the poetry of this work, that the musicians thought it appropriate to record in this location, by means of a high technology.
Together with Caetano Veloso, Madredeus, Susanna Baca, Amara Portuondo, Sainkho… Marlevar are testimonials UNICEF - Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund- for project "All Children in School” and have been called to represent all the artists of the homonymous compilation at Campidoglio in Rome.
The Chieftains requested the band as an opening act to their Italian concert dates in World Wide Tour 2004, sometimes playing a few pieces with them.
Marlevar performed in Italy, Scotland, France, Senegal, often featuring Andrea Parodi, the late lamented voice of Tazenda.
Other greats have collaborated with Marlevar, such as Alan Stivell and Fabrizio De André.
